About us

Our vision is for a healthier Scotland, free from the harm and inequality caused by tobacco and related products.

ASH Scotland - Action on Smoking and Health - is the leading Scottish charity committed to working to eradicate the harms and inequalities caused the use of tobacco and related products.

We were founded by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1973 as the Scottish arm of the then UK-wide Action on Smoking and Health organisation.

We were subsequently established as a fully independent Scottish charity in 1993 and, since then, we are the only ASH organisation working in and for Scotland.

Conflict of interest

Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control is the cornerstone of tobacco control internationally. FCTC Article 5.3 states there is a “fundamental and irreconcilable conflict between the tobacco industry’s interests and public health policy”.

On the point of that principle, ASH Scotland does not work with the tobacco industry nor with organisations which are funded by tobacco companies or represent its commercial or vested interests.

All participants in events organised by ASH Scotland are therefore required to complete conflict of interest forms declaring that they have no relationship with the tobacco industry.
