Workshop Scenarios

Both the Scottish Tobacco Control Alliance (STCA) Topic Groups and the ASH Scotland Local Alliance Project have used scenario based workshops in recent seminars.  The scenarios were developed from an amalgamation of 'real life' challenges experienced by those working in all areas of tobacco control in Scotland.

Using a scenario rather than discussing their own particular challenges can free people from the every day constraints that may inhibit their approach and may encourage more creative thinking.  For the scenarios to work properly it is essential to have a good mix of professions and organisations within the workshop group.  It will be difficult to have a balanced discussion and produce credible solutions if key players are missing.

One of the benefits that ASH Scotland staff have experienced from this approach has been participants' increased understanding of each other's roles and how they can both provide support for and gain support from each other.

These scenarios, plus tips for workshop organisers, faciltator briefing notes and results from previous workshops are now available for use by those working at a local level.
