STCA Illicit Tobacco Initiative

Joint meeting of the STCA Tobacco Control Issues Group and the Angus Tobacco Control Alliance.  1st March 2012, 11.00 - 16.15, Webster Theatre, Arbroath

This is an opportunity to network with others involved in developing local tobacco control alliances and in reducing the availability and acceptability of illicit tobacco.  The meeting has a special emphasis on tackling illicit tobacco.  Key note speakers include David Wiggins, Dennis Ager, Mary Cuthbert and Brian Smith.  Whilst this meeting was initially intended to invigorate local alliance activity, delegates from outside Tayside wishing to participate in all or part of the meeting are very welcome.

 

The STCA has been providing a forum for discussion, learning and policy development relating to illicit tobacco for many years.

Case Studies

A case study describing a local campaign to combat illicit tobacco sales has been completed by South Ayrshire Council Trading Standards.

A case study researching under-age access to tobacco in North Ayrshire.

Policy recommendations

The report below is being used to inform current activity relating to illicit tobacco and the Scottish Government is being kept informed of debate and discussion within the STCA.

Tackling illicit tobacco:  a Scottish summit for healthier, safer communities.  Perth Concert Hall, 21st September 2010.

A prestigious line-up of national and international speakers raised awareness of the issues arising from the supply of illicit tobacco and the measures used to tackle the problem internationally, nationally and within Scottish communities.
