Death & disease

In March 1962, the Royal College of Physicians launched its landmark report, Smoking and Health. Published at a time when 70% of men and 43% of women smoked, the report set out the evidence that smoking causes lung cancer and other diseases. It called for action. Forty years on, the Royal College of Physicians and ASH have published a review, Forty Fatal Years, assessing the progress made since 1962 in tackling the tobacco epidemic.
