Smoking in Public Places - A survey of the Scottish leisure industry

Aims and Objectives of Research

The aims of the research were:

  • to determine the proportion of public places within the leisure industry in Scotland which have smoking policies and the nature of these policies;
  • to determine how these policies are communicated and enforced;
  • to determine the perceived impact of smoking policies on businesses and views about environmental tobacco smoke;
  • to provide baseline data against which to monitor the impact of the implementation of measures contained within the Tobacco White Paper to restrict smoking in public places.
