The approval scheme covers training that meets the standards for smoking cessation training in Scotland. It was launched in September 2004, following a successful pilot.
The approval scheme is an important development that will enable training providers and practitioners to establish that a course meets nationally accepted quality standards.
At present the approval scheme covers three areas of cessation work:
Training providers submit course materials and other supporting information to PATH who will then assess it against the standards and other best practice criteria. External verifiers are in place to help ensure the quality and consistency of the scheme.
The PATH approval scheme is in line with approval schemes run by other organisations and professional bodies.
