TCI group is aimed at those for whom all or a significant part of their remit includes tobacco related work in the fields of prevention, awareness raising, education, training, cessation service coordination and policy development.
The TCI group intends to focus on the development of a holistic approach to tobacco control involving health, education and enforcement. Meetings generally include a seminar or information exchange.
The Tobacco Control Issues Group has been a useful forum for sharing information and good practice in relation to implementing the Smoke-free public places legislation now in effect. Now attention is focusing on capitalising on the effect of the legislation and effecting culture change by taking cessation services and tobacco control into community settings. A major focus will be addressing illicit tobacco supply and in helping authorities meet local outcome agreements and HEAT targets.
There have been recent presentations on managing smoke-free grounds and on providing stop smoking services to ethnic minority groups.
The Chair of the group is Ivor Churcher, Principal Environmental Health Officer with Aberdeen City Council. Minutes of group meetings are held in the password-protected members' area.
See Events for the date of the next meeting.
