Austria

Updated 11 July 2008

A 2005 law banned smoking in indoor public places but included an exemption for restaurants and cafes however this law is not strictly enforced.

In July 2008 a law was passed which requires restaurants and bars larger than 861 square feet to create separate smoking sections.  Businesses smaller than 538 square feet can choose whether they go smoke-free. For those between 538 and 861 square feet, owners will have to pick between the two options unless th authorities deem it possible to create a separate room.

Minors and pregnant women are not allowed to work in spaces where they are exposed to smoke.
