Smoking was banned in schools and hospitals from the end of October 2008, while restaurants, bars and other catering establishments were been given six months “to adjust.” Restaurants and bars will be allowed to permit smoking on terraces and may have separate smoking rooms, but no food or drink may be served in these rooms. Smoke-free legislation also applies on all forms of public transport, including domestic air flights.
The ban does not apply to hospital psychiatric wards.
