Islamic Republic of Iran

Update 10th May 2006

Smoking is not permitted on trains, on domestic flights of two hours duration or less, or on buses. Smoking is also prohibited in enclosed public places, including offices, factories, cinemas and theatres.

A bill prohibiting smoking in public places was reported to have been approved by the Iranian government on 10th May 2006. If approved by the Guardian Council smoking will be prohibited in public groups, restaurants and private cars, however the Guardian Council rejected a similar bill in 2005.
