Latvia

Last updated 13 August 2008

Latvia is to introduce new smoke-free legislation from 1 April 2010.  All indoor public catering premises will be smoke-free.  Smoking will be permitted in designated smoking areas of casinos and outdoor cafes.  Designated smoking areas on long haul trains and cruise ships will be the only areas where smoking is permitted on public transport.

Health care facilities, educational and cultural facilities, public transport, hotels, restaurants, and work areas that are also used by non-smokers have been smoke-free since legislation was introduced in 1993.
