The Scottish Tobacco Control Alliance (STCA) is a democratic, pro-active, participatory body and encourages the active engagement of members. STCA members represent their organisations, sharing information on an ongoing basis with colleagues. Membership in the STCA is free.
The STCA is backed by ASH Scotland and consequently the most up-to-date and professional help and advice is always on hand, through the website, through the weekly STCA bulletin of news and research and from ASH Scotland staff; particularly the STCA Coordinator, David Robertson.
In addition to attending STCA activities, member organisations are encouraged to put forward suggestions which may provide useful learning and professional development opportunities for their own staff and stakeholders and so benefit the whole membership.
Here are some comments from the last STCA review:
“We are very fortunate to be a member of the STCA. We have been there since the beginning and have a good relationship with them. It has opened up new channels for us to form relationships with others across the country and exchange ideas about practice”
“Meeting with other people who have overcome the same problems that you face, is how you stay sane”
“I personally have appreciated being involved in the STCA. It has made a difference and contributed to public support of the Smokefree legislation, which I see as just a first step to a healthier Scotland. UK-wise it has impacted positively, for example I went to speak at meetings in London, including Westminster, and believe I’ve positively influenced policy in England and Wales. My performance was helped by the STCA”
Multiple representation from most councils, health boards and universities, royal colleges and other professional bodies, government agencies, healthy living centres and health improvement projects, drug action teams, health charities and organisations tackling inequalities. Any organisation wishing to contribute to a holistic approach to tobacco control.
Organisations or parts of organisations may apply for membership of the STCA by completing an e-Membership Form. Information to clarify the application process may be found in the document Membership Handbook or, phone or email David Robertson - STCA Coordinator: 0131 220 9467.
