Scotland's Chief Medical Officer Harry Burns has welcomed the positive impact that going smoke-free is having on Scotland's health.
Maureen Moore, Chief Executive of ASH Scotland said,
"Going smoke-free has been the greatest step forward for health in Scotland for a generation. Not only are smoke-free public places protecting everyone from the dangers of second-hand smoke, it also helps many smokers to beat their nicotine addiction.
"In recent years the smoking rate in Scotland has been slowly declining. Despite this, 13, 000 people in Scotland still die every year as a result of tobacco related diseases. There is still much work to be done to reduce this totally unnecessary number of deaths. Going smoke-free is a great step towards reducing those deaths."
