Allen Carr, the man who wrote self-help books for smokers who want to quit, has died at the age of 72. Mr Carr was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer earlier this year. Before Mr Carr established his business for helping smokers to quit, he smoked 100 cigarettes a day.
Maureen Moore, Chief Executive of ASH Scotland said,
¿I am saddened to hear of Allen Carr¿s death from lung cancer. His books have helped millions of smokers to quit smoking and I am sure they will continue to be used by the hundreds of thousands of smokers in Scotland that want to quit.
¿As an ex-100 a day smoker, Mr Carr frequently said that he would have died years ago if he had not quit. Today, to the smokers in Scotland who are thinking of quitting, I would say that Mr Carr is a great inspiration, even the heaviest smoker can quit and grab back some of the years that would otherwise have been claimed by tobacco.¿
