14 March 2007
Maureen Moore, Chief Executive of ASH Scotland said:
'This year the rest of the UK will follow Scotland's lead and introduce smoke-free legislation. In Scotland, many smokers took the opportunity in March last year to set a quit date and seek support to stop smoking. Anecdotally, the experience of having smoke free public places has also encouraged a number of smokers to cut down on their tobacco use. No Smoking Day provides an opportunity for smokers to choose to quit their smoking habit completely.
NHS stop-smoking services are free and available to everyone. These are the best proven way to increase your chances of quitting successfully. There has never been a better time to quit.'
To find out more about quitting smoking, phone the Smokeline free on 0800 84 84 84, 12 noon to midnight.
