Inequalities
Introduction
The use of tobacco is highest amongst the most disadvantaged communities and is recognised as a major contributor to health, poverty and social inequalities in Scotland. For this reason we need to ensure that inequality focussed work remains a priority.
For more than a decade, we have demonstrated our commitment to supporting tobacco related work and are dedicated to working towards the provision of inclusive and accessible support for those wanting to address their smoking. Recognising the importance of community participation, the scope and range of activities have varied from research and resource development to funded pilot project work.
- Past work:
Our efforts have previously been focussed on tobacco related issues for learning difficulties, women and low income, the blind and visually impaired, and black and minority ethnic communities. For more information on our previous work and activities and to read the findings and conclusions from the final reports please go to Past Work.
- Current work:
Building on the recommendations and conclusions from previous work the current phase - Tobacco and Inequalities Project Phase 3 - was established to tackle tobacco use through a community development approach. The project has specifically targeted Black and Minority Ethnic Communities, Mental Health and Older Adults. For more information about our current work please go to Tobacco & Inequalities - Phase 3.
