Working with Local Alliances: Local Tobacco Control Alliance Communications
One of the aims of the Local Tobacco Control Alliance Project is to facilitate the sharing of information and good practice and to enable Local Alliances in Scotland to learn from each other.
Local Tobacco Control Alliance Seminars
A series of regional seminars were organised in Inverness, Dundee and Glasgow both to generate dialogue and engagement, and to explore how national tobacco control priorities can translate into practical action at a local level. It is planned to repeat these regional seminars on an annual basis in order to encourage dialogue between local alliances in neighbouring areas.
Scottish Local Alliance Electronic Discussion Group
An electronic discussion group has been developed for those working in tobacco control in Scotland to promote discussion and exchange of intelligence and advice. The Group is hosted by Globalink (a global tobacco control network) and managed by ASH Scotland, members of the Scottish Local Alliance Discussion Group are not required to be members of Globalink. All those working within the various disciplines of tobacco control across Scotland are eligible to join the group with the emphasis on encouraging partnership working and the development and support of Local Tobacco Control Alliances.
Local Tobacco Control Alliances Newsletter
A quarterly newsletter is produced which provides information about key and current issues at a national level as well as an opportunity for Local Alliances to share information about their work. The newsletter covers the WHO FCTC 6 strands of tobacco control reducing exposure to secondhand smoke; media/education campaigns; reducing availability/regulating supply; support to stop smoking; reducing tobacco advertising and promotion; regulating tobacco products. The newsletter is disseminated by email as a pdf file.
