Campaigners Network so we can notify you when you can help in our campaigning work
ASH Scotland provides a range of services that are highly regarded and well known within Scotland’s public health field. Yet most people know us because of our campaigning work which aims to highlight the harm that is caused by smoking and its impact on health inequalities.
Every year in Scotland 13,500 people die from smoking-related diseases and 15,000 young people take up smoking. Investment in youth smoking prevention and stop-smoking services is vital and we will continue to campaign hard for these services to be effective and sustainable.
Over the years our campaign successes include: smoke-free public places; the rise in the cigarette purchase age to 18 backed by enforcement; a government action plan to prevent youth smoking; NRT available on prescription; and free stop-smoking services across Scotland. But these achievements were only possible because of the contributions from people like you,
You may not realise that we cannot use the public funding we receive to finance our campaigns. Instead we rely on individual donations to maintain the high profile that tobacco has on the public health agenda and in the minds of policy makers, MSPs, and the media.
To find out more about our work, and how we spent our funding in 2009, read our most recent annual report. (pdf, 1.5mb)
We have seen policy and legislation make a difference to tobacco control in Scotland. This has been achieved through active and effective campaigning. Your support is essential in maintaining and continuing that work. Every contribution you provide really can make a difference.
Thank you
