2010 Youth & tobacco conference

ASH Scotland & STCA
Youth and Tobacco Conference
25 March 2010 Dynamic Earth

Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh was the setting for the ASH Scotland/STCA Youth and Tobacco Conference held on the 25 March 2010.

Those gathered at the event were focusing on ways to engage with young people and raise the issues of the impact tobacco has on young people, the environment, the developing world, inequalities and much more.  With the Scottish Smoking Prevention Action Plan in mind, delegates discussed their roles in preventing smoking uptake by young people and challenging and changing the social and cultural norms of smoking within the youth settings and communities.

The conference looked at ways of integrating smoking and tobacco issues into Curriculum for Excellence, youth work and associated youth issues, health promotion, smoke-free environments and how we might provide meaningful opportunities for young people to get actively involved in these issues.

The issues raised throughout the conference will inform the future Youth Development work of ASH Scotland; contribute to the STCA Youth and Tobacco Forum agenda; and be promoted through the Local Alliance Project, raising awareness at a local level.

ASH Scotland welcomes your views on how we take these issues forward, therefore please contact  Emma Cepok, Youth Development Officer, ASH Scotland at emma.cepok@ashscotland.org.uk or phone 0131 220 9465.
