ASH Scotland is Scotland's leading voluntary organisation in tobacco control, but we do not provide a stop smoking service.
Your best chance of quitting comes from direct support, which is offered free by all health boards. You can find your local stop smoking service by:
With 69% of smokers saying they want to give up, the New Year is usually a time when smokers either give up or think about quitting. There are many ways of quitting. Most people use willpower alone to stop smoking; others use the free support and advice provided by the NHS or their local pharmacy; some use other methods such as self-help books or hypnosis.
Many former smokers say that quitting was easier than they thought it would be; others may take several attempts before they can finally say they are a former or non smoker. However one thing all former smokers have in common is benefitting from overall better health and more money in their pocket.
Let ASH Scotland know your views
How did you get drawn into smoking? Do people around you smoke? Do you want to give up? if you are a former smoker, did you find it easy or did you take several attempts to quit?
You could be a former smoker who would like to share your experience and tips with others – how did you give up, how did you cope with cravings, did you get support from family and friends, were you able to find help and advice to stop?
Or maybe you still smoke and want to quit but think there maybe too many obstacles and you would like to share your thoughts?
Are you a smoker who quit smoking but started again? Do you know why, did people around you encourage you to give up or not? Are you keen to try again?
We would like to gather your views and opinions and share some of your thoughts on our website for others to view and to help inform the future work of ASH Scotland. We won’t use anything on the website without contacting you first for permission. If you want to let us know what you think, please email us your story: enquiries@ashscotland.org.uk
